MSU Opens Fall Slate With SEC Challenge

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., - The Mississippi State men's tennis team looks to lead an early mark on the Southeastern Conference when it heads across the state line to compete in the SEC Challenge on Friday.

The Bulldogs will compete against seven other SEC teams in the three-day event. Along with host Alabama, MSU set to battle Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Auburn, Oklahoma, Florida and Kentucky.

Each player competes in one doubles and one singles match daily during the event.

Head coach Matt Roberts and newly-hired assistant coach Trevor Gotkowski took four players to Tuscaloosa in junior Michal Novansky and sophomores Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes, Marshall Landry and Radomir Tomic.

MSU is slated to start at 10 a.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Novansky and Tomic will start things off on Friday in doubles against the Alabama tandem of Roan Jones and Andrii Zimnokh in the Crimson Draw while Ferrer Guimaraes and Landry battle Oklahoma's Oscar Lacides and Bruno Nhavene in the White Draw.

When singles play begins on Friday, Tomic is set to take on 62^nd-ranked Zimnokh and Novansky matches up against Jones also in the Crimson Draw. The White Draw sees Ferrer Guimaraes go up against Lacides while Landry goes head-to-head with Nhavene.

The school that wins two of the three daily matchups will continue in the winner's bracket of the compass draw while the team that comes up short competes in the loser's side of the draw with an overall winners decided on Sunday during the round-robin tournament.
