September 01, 2024 | Women's Golf
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs finished in third at the 2024 Carmel Cup. The best scorecard of the day belonged to Samantha Whateley.
Whateley finished 2-under par, marking the third par or better round of her career. She finished her day strong on the back nine, picking up birdies on holes 16 and 17 which would set her under par. In the final day of the competition, she climbed 15 spots on the leaderboard, ending in 20th. This was the second time she finished in the top 20 in her career.
Julia Lopez Ramirez fell just short of the individual title, but still put together an impressive performance on the weekend. Fueled by excellent first and second rounds, she earned her 20th career top-five finish as she finished in third at 4-under. Lopez Ramirez was one of six golfers in the field to finish under-par on the tournament.
Avery Weed fell right outside of the top-10, as she finished in 11th at 5-over par, her fourth career top-20 finish. Chiara Horder and Izzy Pellot both cracked the top-20, as they finished 15th and 19th, respectively.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on September 20, when they head to Franklin, Tennessee to compete in the Mason Rudolph Championship, hosted by the Carmel Cup champions, Vanderbilt.
