August 09, 2024 | Football
STARKVILLE – On Friday, Mississippi State football's Ethan Miner was named to the 2024 Rimington Trophy Watchlist. The award is given annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football.
Â
Miner, who was the second-best offensive lineman in The American according to PFF last season (81.5), spent one year at North Texas before his time at Arkansas State. In his career, Miner has played in 44 career games with 36 starts, including a streak of 35 straight starts dating back to Sept. 4, 2021, when he was a member of the Arkansas State football team.
Â
Not only has Miner been one of the best offensive linemen in the American Conference, but he is also an elite center. He earned the third-best PFF grade in all of the FBS for a center (81.2), while his 85.9 passing grade by PFF was the fifth-best grade nationally as well.
Â
While at UNT, he blocked for an offense that averaged 495.8 yards per game and 304.7 passing yards per contest. Following last season's stellar campaign, Miner was named to the Athlon Sports Preseason All-SEC Fourth Team while earning 2024 National Football Honor Society honors for his hard work in the classroom.
Â
Prior to his lone season at North Texas, Miner spent four seasons at Arkansas State. After redshirting his initial season at ASU, Miner became a mainstay in the Red Wolves' offense by 2020 and a full-time starter in 2021. During that 2021 campaign, he anchored an offensive line that averaged 313.9 passing yards per game, the 11th-best mark in the nation. In each of his three years starting at Arkansas State, the Red Wolves' offense averaged over 300 yards per game through the air.
Â
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, the award has raised over $5 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation.
Â
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
