MSU volleyball transfer already feels at home in Starkville.
STARKVILLE – The unknowns that loom in the distance when moving to a place you are unaccustomed to can be frightening at times.
But for Mississippi State volleyball star Arianna Beckham, she has never felt more comfortable.
Since arriving on campus this summer, State's coaching staff and players made Starkville feel like home for the junior Florida Atlantic transfer.
"Honestly, the family environment is what drew me to Mississippi State," Beckham said ahead of her first season at MSU. "As soon as I talked to [head coach Julie Darty Dennis], she just seemed like a mother to me. I'm so close to my mom so having that [bond] with her, my coaches and my teammates just felt good."
In her sophomore season at FAU, Beckham led the Owls with 351 kills and was second on the team with 74 blocks and 60 block assists. She was also selected as the 2023 Owls Paradise Classic All-Tournament Team MVP and picked to the the 2023 Miami/Best Western Invitational All-Tournament Team after stringing together a multitude of incredible performances.
With only two seasons under her belt, Beckham has not let that halt her from making her mark on the court. She has racked up 162 sets of playing time in 49 matches throughout her first two years playing collegiate volleyball.
As the start to her junior season rapidly approaches, Beckham is focusing on building relationships with her team, honing their craft and preparing for the upcoming season.
"It's been going really well," Beckham said. "We've been working a lot on our offense, our serves and our defense. It's been a good [offseason] all-around. We've been working hard all-around and [focusing] on all of the aspects that go into representing Mississippi State volleyball."
State's roster features a plethora of talented athletes from all walks of life. The diverse culture in Starkville makes athletes, especially those moving far away from home, feel welcomed in their new environment.
The close-knit group of talented newcomers and experienced veterans has allowed for an undeniable chemistry on and off the court. The bonds formed have been a welcome sight for Beckham.
"It's crazy how close we've gotten so fast," Beckham said. "It's been amazing. We all can call each other sisters and the chemistry is awesome."
Representing the Maroon and White on and off the court means everything to the Wellington, Florida, native. Learning under intelligent minds that know the game of volleyball inside and out is something the talented junior holds near and dear to her heart heading into her third collegiate season.
"I've learned a lot under [Dennis] already," Beckham said. "I feel like I have learned more than I ever have in my volleyball career. She has been amazing. She's always been open to teach me new volleyball skills every day, so it's been amazing [learning under her]."
