Bair Finishes National Runner Up, Breaks School Record on Day 2 of NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Peyton Bair closed out day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track Field Championships as the national runner-up in the men's decathlon. Bair finished with a personal record total of 8,131 points smashing the previous school record set in 2004.

The Idaho native began the second day of the decathlon in second place after setting two personal bests and season bests including a new NCAA Championship meet record in the decathlon 100m with a time of 10.30 on Wednesday. He followed a similar suit in the first event on Thursday placing second overall in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.08 earning 964 points.

Bair then earned 593 points in the discus followed by 822 points earned in the pole vault that landed him in third place by just four points. However, a personal best throw in the Javelin secured 651 points, landing him back in second place heading into the final event. Bair finished the 1500m in 4:41.15 earning him 675 points. His total of 8,131 points set a new personal record and his third All-American Honor.

Earlier in the day Jhordyn Stallworth earned Second-Team All-American honors after placing 11th in the shot put. The shot put school record holder finished with a mark of 17.05m in her first trip to the NCAA Championships. She completes her senior season with four school records: the freshman shot put discus as well as the overall shot put and discus records.

The Bulldog women concluded the events with four top-20 finishes. Â Rosealee Cooper and Jessicka Woods finished 18th and 19th in the nation in the 100m, respectively, and the 4x100m relay team placed 18th nationally.

The Bulldog men will continue tomorrow's competition with Roury McCloyen in the discus that will begin at 7:35 p.m. CT.
