Bulldogs Ready For The SEC Outdoor Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Mississippi State track and field team will begin its 2024 postseason quest this weekend at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Gainesville. The three-day competition hosted by the University of Florida will begin Thursday and conclude Saturday.

The Bulldogs' postseason campaign will begin at 12:30 p.m. CT Thursday with the men's decathlon 100m and will conclude at 8:40 p.m. CT Saturday evening with the 4x400m relay.

Thursday and Friday will consist of preliminary events and finals for the men's and women's 10,000m and 3,000m steeple chase. Finals for field events will take place on all three days beginning with the men's and women's hammer throw and javelin on Thursday. Competition will conclude Saturday with the men's and women's discus throw and pole vault. The official schedule can be found here.

What To Watch
The Bulldog men's track team will enter the meet ranked No. 15 in the nation and ninth in the SEC for the second consecutive week by USTFCCCA. Highlighting the men are the No. 10 ranked 100m event squad, No. 5 ranked 200m, and the 400m Hurdle. The men's No. 7 ranked javelin squad, the jumps squads and shot put will highlight the field events.

State's women will be highlighted on the track by both the 100m hurdle and 400m hurdle squad and both the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay teams. Highlighting field events for the women are the shot put and javelin squads.

Two-time SEC Runner of the Week Jordan Ware will make his SEC Outdoor Championships debut in the 100m and 200m dash. The Memphis native ranks third in both the SEC and the nation in the 200m with a wind-aided time of 20.18w. He also ranks nationally in the 100m at No. 16 and No. 7 in the SEC with a time of 10.09. Ware is the only freshman in the top with a top 15 nationally ranked time.Â

All-SEC Indoor Track and Field Second Team runner Tyrese Reid will return to the 800m for the SEC Outdoor Championships after placing second in the 2024 SEC Indoor Championships. Reid ranks No. 3 in the nation and No. 2 in the SEC with a personal-best time of 1:45.76. The Montego Bay native has improved his 800m personal record by more than three seconds since the 2023 SEC Outdoor Championships and ranks fourth on State's all-time top-five list.

Roury McCloyen will compete in the shot put as the only freshman in the field. McCloyen completed the 2024 indoor season with a fifth-place finish in the shot put at the SEC Indoor Championships and as the only freshman in the field. He currently ranks sixth in the SEC and is the only freshman ranked with a top-20 performance in the SEC and the NCAA. He owns a personal best throw of 19.29m (63-3.5).  McCloyen holds State's freshman shot put record and ranks second on both the shot put and discus all-time top five performance list.

The men's javelin squad featuring junior Remi Rougetet and Frank Di Sanza will compete Thursday. The All-American duo each rank nationally at No. 9 and No. 19 respectively.

On the women's side, indoor 60m First Team All-American Rosealee Cooper will compete in the 100m hurdles alongside sophomore Jessicka Woods. The duo both rank in the top 20 in the SEC at ninth and 20th respectively. Cooper, who placed eighth at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, holds the school record and freshman record in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best time of 12.93, while Woods holds the freshman record and ranks fourth on State's all-time top five list in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 58.89.

Cooper will be joined by freshmen Jaitlyn Ware and Kydall Sessom and sophomore McKenzie Calloway for the 4x100m relay Saturday. The squad broke the school record last month at Florida's Tom Jones Memorial Invitational with a time of 44.48.

State's shot-put school record holder Jhordyn Stallworth will return to the cage. Stallworth has improved her school record twice this season and has a current personal record of 17.30m (56-9.25). Her mark ranks seventh in the SEC and 17th in the nation.

Oregon State transfer Ella Knott will make her SEC Championship debut in the javelin Thursday. Knott ranks ninth in the SEC with a personal-record distance of 50.42m (165- 5). Her mark ranks her second on State's all-time top-five list. She concluded the regular season by placing in the top five at every meet including a first-place finish at the Bulldog Alumni Relays.

Following the SEC Championships, athletes who rank in the top 48 of the South Region, in their respective event, will then head to Lexington, Kentucky, for the second post-season competition, NCAA First Rounds.
