Diamond Dawgs Fall to Vanderbilt, 4-3

HOOVER, Ala. – Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth, the Mississippi State Bulldogs tried to rally for the third straight game. The Dawgs plated two but came up short as they were defeated by Vanderbilt, 4-3.
The Bulldogs' offense went scoreless through five innings, but a single run in the sixth inning and a two-run ninth inning got the Dawgs going. The Diamond Dawgs ended the night with eight hits but struggled to push runners across, stranding 11 base runners.
Connor Hujsak led the offense in the game, going 2-for-3 with a triple, double, and an RBI. David Mershon picked up a pair of hits to end the night 2-for-4 at the plate.
Jurrangelo Cijntje grabbed the start on the mound and recorded his ninth double-digit strikeout game this season with ten punchouts on the night in his six innings of work. Gavin Black grabbed an inning of work and struck out a pair. Cam Schuelke pitched two innings and struck out three.
The Diamond Dawgs are back in action Friday against No. 1 Tennessee. First pitch is slated for approximately 6:30 p.m. and will air on SEC Network.
