
Three Diamond Dawgs Earn All-SEC Honors

STARKVILLE – Three members of Mississippi State's baseball team received postseason honors from the Southeastern Conference on Monday.Â

Shortstop David Mershon and pitcher Khal Stephen were named first team All-SEC by the league's coaches, while outfielder Dakota Jordan was tabbed second team All-SEC.
Over his sophomore season as a Diamond Dawg, Mershon was a key piece for the Diamond Dawgs at the plate and in the field. The infielder made 50 starts - 35 at shortstop, 11 at second base and four at DH - while posting a .958 fielding percentage for the season.

Mershon leads the team in stolen bases with 23, the 10th-most in a single season for an MSU player. His 23 stolen bases are the third-most in the SEC this season and only four behind the SEC stolen base leader. At the plate, Mershon has 63 hits and 36 RBIs in 193 plate appearances with a .326 batting average. He finished second on the team with 18 multi-hit games.

Through his two years in the Maroon and White, Mershon has seen the plate 275 times and grabbed 86 hits, 54 walks and 41 RBIs for a .313 career batting average and has stolen 35 bases.

During his junior year with Mississippi State, Stephen has been one of the best arms in the SEC.
Stephen came in and pitched 83 innings, the most in the by an SEC pitcher this season. He had a team-high eight wins for the Dawgs.

Stephen's eight wins are the fourth-most by a pitcher this season and his 93 strikeouts are the eighth-most by a pitcher. During conference play, Stephen led the team with six wins through 10 starts. He has posted a 3.21 ERA with 67 punchouts through 232 batters faced in 61 2/3 innings of in SEC only games.

Over his single season in the Diamond Dawg uniform, Stephen has earned a 3.25 ERA through 14 starts, punching out 93 and holding opponents to a .214 batting average to post an 8-3 record on the season.

Over his sophomore season at MSU, Jordan has shined for the Diamond Dawgs leading the team in home runs (17) and RBIs (61). Jordan has the seventh-best batting average in the SEC hitting .363.
His 17 home runs are two shy of joining the single-season top 10 mark at Mississippi State. His 61 runs batted in are the sixth-most in the SEC. He has 23 multi-hit games this season, the most on the team. He is one of only five players to have a four-hit game this season for MSU. Jordan also leads the team with a .691 slugging percentage and 74 hits.
In his two years wearing the Maroon and White, Jordan has hit 27 home runs while posting a .339 batting average and driving in 101 runs, while appearing in 99 career games.

Jordan and the Diamond Dawgs return to action on Tuesday when they open play at the SEC Tournament. The Dawgs will take on Ole Miss and will be the last game of the day with a start time of approximately 8 p.m.Â
