FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 14 Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs battled on Friday night against the No. 5 Arkansas Razorbacks. MSU took the lead in the top of the 8th inning but could not hold onto it and fell to the Razorbacks, 7-5.
Mississippi State's offense did not go quietly in game one, with seven hits on the night to score five runs. A bases-loaded walk by Johnny Long and a sacrifice fly from Bryce Chance in the eighth inning pushed State ahead, but the Dawgs ultimately fell short.
Hunter Hines cleaned up the bases for the Diamond Dawgs with three RBIs on the night. Hines ended the night 1-for-4 at the plate with a double that scored the Dawg's first three runs. Bryce Chance went 1-for-2 in game one with a sacrifice fly in the eighth that gave the Diamond Dawgs the lead heading into the bottom half of the inning.
Khal Stephen grabbed the Friday night start, went seven innings against the Razorbacks, picked up six punchouts, and did not walk a batter. Tyson Hardin picked up an inning of relief work and struck out one.
Mississippi State is back in action for game two tomorrow. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and will be aired on SECN+.
