April 24, 2024 | Men's Golf
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The No. 38 Mississippi State men's golf team finished the first day of the SEC Championship on Wednesday in 12th place. MSU is 8-over par as a team and seven strokes back from the match play cut line. Â
State was led by Hunter Logan, who shot a 2-under 68 in the opening round. He started strong, going 2-under through the first four holes after starting on the back nine. He would add another birdie on Hole 1 and briefly climbed into the lead, before bogeying the No. 8 hole to get back to 2-under. Logan stands in a tie for eighth place, and he is three strokes back of the individual leader. Â
Logan has carded 18 par or better rounds this season, with 12 of those rounds coming in the 60s. Both of those marks lead the team. He has shot under par in four different rounds in his SEC Championship career, and this was his third-best career round at the event.Â
Alejandro Fierro is MSU's second-highest placing golfer after one round. He started out 2-under himself, before faltering at the turn with a double bogey. He stands at 1-over par headed into Round 2 and is tied for 35th. Â
The Bulldogs picked up five birdies elsewhere on the scorecard, with Harrison Davis and Josep Serra both providing two apiece. Garrett Endicott is tied for 56th on the leaderboard while Serra and Davis are 59th and 66th respectively.Â
