Bulldogs Wrap Regular Season At Mossy Oak Collegiate
April 16, 2024 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE – The No. 26 Mississippi State men's golf team finished the regular season by completing the final round of the Mossy Oak Collegiate on Tuesday. Over the two-day event, the Bulldogs shot a combined 6-under 858 and finished tied for fourth. State's fourth place finish allows them to continue their season long run of top-10 finishes and marks their sixth finish in the top half of the field this season. Â
"I thought we did a really nice job of putting a good round together," head coach Dusty Smith said. "It was a big round for our team. I really challenged the guys last night to play for each other and the State logo on their chest rather than themselves. They really embraced that today and got a lot of momentum heading into post season play."Â
MSU's third round was their best of the tournament, as they shot a combined 6-under 282. That round paced all other teams in the field other than eventual tournament winner Auburn. State's strong round saw four separate Bulldogs finish under-par including 4-under days from Josep Serra and Alejandro Fierro. Fierro's 4-under 68 matches his career-low round, last achieved at the Schenkel Invitational earlier this spring. He also recorded his career-high finish, tying for 21st. Serra was the highest placing Bulldog in the field, tying for 7th. The transfer junior is second on the team with two top-5 finishes this year, and has recorded top-20 finishes on five separate occasions. Â
State's second highest finish of the tournament came from Alejandro Pedryc. Pedryc shot bogey-free over the first 17 holes of the day, and finished tied for 18th at 2-under for the tournament. Â
MSU had three other top-25 finishers in Pedro Cruz Silva, Hunter Logan and Harrison Davis. Cruz SIlva shot five birdies in the final round to go 2-under on the day, and earned a 21st place finish in his first tournament of the Spring. Davis and Logan shot a combined five birdies on the final day of action and finished tied for 25th.Â
"Now that the regular season is over, we turn our focus on post season," Smith continued. "It's the best time of the year in our sport and I am very much looking forward to us playing our best when it matters the most. It is what we've been preparing for since day one."Â
MSU will next turn their attention to the postseason. State will have just over a week off, before returning to action at the SEC tournament in St. Simons Island, Georgia. The tournament will consist of three days of stroke play, with the top eight teams then advancing to the match play bracket for a shot at the SEC Championship.Â
