Diamond Dawgs Fall in Twelve

OXFORD, Miss. - The Mississippi State Bulldogs were defeated by the Ole Miss Rebels 10-9 in 12 innings on Saturday night. The game went back and forth in the 10th and 11th innings before the Rebels walked it off.
Jurrangelo Cijntje drew the start on the bump for the Diamond Dawgs and worked three innings.,He gave up four hits and three earned runs, but he struck out three batters in the process. Brooks Auger took the mound for the next three innings. He only gave up two hits, two walks, no runs and also stuck out three Rebels. The trio of Tyler Davis, Karson Ligon and Nolan Stevens closed the game for the Bulldogs. In a combined 4 1/3 innings of work, they gave up four hits and three runs while they also struck out two.
Several Bulldogs contributed to the nine runs scored, but David Mershon, Dakota Jordan and Johnny Long led the way at the plate. Mershon went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a walk. Jordan went 2-for-6 at the plate, picking up a RBI. Long went 2-for-5 with a walk and three runs scored, a team best on the night. Long also hit his first home run of the year in the top of the 12th inning that gave State a one-run lead. Hunter Hines and Connor Hujsak also hit home runs tonight. Hines finished with two RBIs, while Hujsak finished with one from his solo homer.
Mississippi State is back in action against Ole Miss on Sunday for game three of the series. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on SECN+.
