April 11, 2024 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – Chris Hooshyar will close out his first regular season as Mississippi State's women's tennis coach with a pair of home matches this weekend.
Up first for the Bulldogs will be a showdown with No. 46 Arkansas on Friday at 3 p.m. The Razorbacks will be the 12th-consecutive ranked opponent MSU has faced in Southeastern Conference play.
Graduate Alexandra Mikhailuk has recorded 67 career singles victories, which ties her with MSU Hall of Famer and current Northwestern head coach Claire Pollard (1986-89) for the 10th-most in school history. Mikhailuk needs one more win to match Sabine Guibal (1988-91) for ninth place all-time for the Bulldogs.
Mikhailuk is currently tied with junior Maria Rizzolo for the team lead with 13 singles wins this season.
Senior Chloé Cirotte recorded a career milestone this past Sunday with her 50th career singles victory. Cirotte downed Tennessee's Alana Wolfberg 6-3, 2-6, 1-0[6] on the road but State (10-14, 0-11 SEC) fell 6-1 as a team in that match.
Junior Alessia Tagliente and sophomore Dharani Niroshan top the Bulldogs' doubles duos with 10 wins together on the year.
Arkansas heads to the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre with a 10-11 record and a 3-8 mark in conference play. The Razorbacks were swept at home last weekend by then No. 39 LSU (4-2) and No. 11 LSU (4-1).
No. 31 Carolina Gomez Alonso headlines Arkansas' singles lineup. Morgan Cross also makes up a pair of ranked doubles tandems for the Hogs with Indianna Spink (42) and Anet Koskel (53).
The second half of Friday's originally scheduled doubleheader against Alcorn State has been canceled and will not be made up.
