March 16, 2024 | Men's Golf
STATESBORO, Ga. – The No. 25 Mississippi State men's golf team completed the second round of the 44th annual Schenkel Invitational on Saturday, shooting a combined 11-under 277. The Bulldogs jumped two spots on the team leaderboard and currently stand in a tie for fourth with Wisconsin and host Georgia Southern. Florida currently holds a nine-stroke lead on the Dawgs in first place ahead of Sunday's final round. Â
MSU's performance was built on a complete team effort in which five of State's golfers finished under par. Five Bulldogs are now in the top half of the individual leaderboard, including four among the top 30. Â
Garrett Endicott led the Bulldogs individually for the second straight day, carding a season-best 6-under 66. That mark brings him to 7-under overall and gives him sole possession of fifth place. He has now shot seven rounds in the 60s this season, second only Hunter Logan on the team. The sophomore jumped 12 spots on the individual leaderboard on Saturday and carded the second-best round in the field. He trails the leader, Florida's Parker Bell, by five strokes.Â
Alejandro Fierro also contributed a stellar performance, carding a career-best 4-under 68. The round marks Fierro's first in the 60s, and he carded his third career eagle on the par-5- No. 7 tee. He was one of the biggest climbers on the leaderboard on the tournament's second day, jumping 22 spots into a tie for 21st, which would be the best finish of his collegiate career if it stands through Sunday. Â
Harrison Davis and Josep Serra both carded 2-under rounds on the day. Davis shot his third-best round of the season so far with four birdies and rose to a tie for 41st. Serra turned in an under-par, three-birdie round for the second straight day. He is currently tied with Fierro for 21st place. Â
Drew Wilson finished 1-under for the second day in a row. He notched four birdies and is tied for 27th. Â
The Bulldogs will tee off at 8:15 a.m. CT on Sunday to start the final round.Â
