
Dawgs Sixth After First Day At Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. – No. 25 Mississippi State men's golf completed the first round of the 44th annual Schenkel Invitational on Friday, shooting a combined 2-under 286. The Bulldogs currently stand in a tie for sixth with host Georgia Southern and are nine strokes back from leader Middle Tennessee.Â
Individually, the Bulldog effort was led by 1-under performances from Drew Wilson, Josep Serra and Garrett Endicott. After starting 2-over on the front nine, Wilson finished strong, carding three birdies in a bogey-free back nine. Wilson has now shot par or better rounds in five of his 10 rounds this season. It also marked his second-lowest opening round this season, and his fourth-lowest round of the year.Â
Conversely, Serra started strong, birdieing three holes on the front nine. He would bogey on Holes 9 and 10, before finishing with eight bogey-free holes to close his day. The round marks Serra's 12th par or better round this season.Â
Endicott carded four birdies on the day and shot his 12th par or better round of the season, tying Serra and Hunter Logan for most on the team. Wilson, Serra and Endicott are all tied for 15th on the individual leaderboard and are five strokes off the lead.Â
Hunter Logan and Alejandro Fierro, who was competing individually, both turned in 1-over performances for the round. The two each carded three birdies a piece and are tied for 42nd.Â
Harrison Davis also competed for the Bulldogs and carded three birdies of his own. The junior is 2-over and sits tied for 52nd place.Â
The Bulldogs will tee off at 8:45 a.m. CT on Saturday to start Round 2.Â
