
Mississippi State Races Past Georgia, 76-57

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball used a balanced attack to earn its fifth straight win with a 76-57 victory over Georgia inside Humphrey Coliseum on Thursday.
With the win, Mississippi State earned its 20th win of the season and improved to 20-5 overall, 7-3 in the SEC. Sam Purcell also became the first head coach in program history to record 20-plus wins in each of his first two seasons.
The latest stretch also marks the first time since 2019-20 that Mississippi State has won five straight SEC contests.
Senior guard Jerkaila Jordan led all Bulldogs with 19 points and added nine rebounds, four steals and four blocks in 33 minutes. Graduate student center Jessika Carter turned in her 38th career double-double and 10th of the season with 18 points on 9-13 from the field and 12 rebounds in 37 minutes. Mississippi State improved to 19-0 under head coach Sam Purcell when Carter records a double-double.
Graduate student forward Erynn Barnum added 18 points and six rebounds in 28 minutes, while graduate student guard Lauren Park-Lane dished out a game-high nine assists.
The Bulldogs also tied its highest assist total under Purcell with 27 assists on 33 field goals made.
Mississippi State outscored Georgia in all four quarters in the dominant effort. The 19-point margin was also the largest of conference play.
Mississippi State traded solid offensive looks with its visitors in the opening minutes of the first quarter and built a 12-10 lead at the initial media timeout. Barnum wasting no time continuing her latest hot stretch, scoring six of the first 12 points on 3-3 from the field and finishing with eight points in the frame to help fuel a quarter in which Mississippi State converted on 64.7 percent from the field.
Mississippi State built a 23-14 margin with a minute left in the initial quarter and secured a 23-19 lead after 10 minutes.
Mississippi State limited its visitors to a stretch on 1-of-10 from the field to extend its lead to 37-28 with 2:02 minutes left before half. After the two teams traded another score each, Mississippi State headed into the locker room ahead, 39-30.
Jordan connected with senior forward Nyayongah Gony for a finish inside that forced a Georgia timeout and provided Mississippi State with a 57-43 lead entering the final 10 minutes.
The fourth quarter featured a similar script with Mississippi State extending its largest lead of contest on a pullup jumper from freshman guard Jasmine Brown-Hagger to make the score 76-54 with 1:04 left on the clock.
Mississippi State remains home to close out the season series with Florida on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
