Mississippi State Falls To Florida, 90-70

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State fell to Florida 90-70 inside Humphrey Coliseum on Sunday.
The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for Mississippi State, who is now 20-6 overall and 7-4 in the SEC.
Graduate student center Jessika Carter recorded her third double-double in the last four contests with 16 points on 7-8 from the field and 13 rebounds in 29 minutes. Graduate student forward Erynn Barnum posted 13 points and four rebounds in 25 minutes, while graduate student guard Lauren Park-Lane dished out a team-high seven assists in 31 minutes.
Mississippi State took an early 9-8 lead at the 6:28 mark of the first quarter after senior guard Darrione Rogers knocked down a pair of free throws following a sequence in which Carter was injured on a collision inside the paint.
Carter would remain out for the remainder of the first quarter and Florida would command a 26-15 advantage at the end of the initial 10 minutes.
Florida extended its lead to 21 in the second quarter and secured a 50-32 lead at the half. The Gators converted on 70.4 from the field and 77.8 from three in first half.
Rogers connected with redshirt junior Nyayongah Gony for a corner triple that closed the margin to 56-43 at the halfway mark of the third quarter. The three was a part of 7-0 run over 1:56 minutes of action that trimmed the deficit to its lowest point since the 7:00 mark of the second quarter.
A left wing three from senior guard Jerkaila Jordan cut the margin to 11 at 60-49 before Florida responded with a 7-2 run to take a 67-51 lead at the end of three quarters.
The margin never reached single digits in the second half as Mississippi State was unable to mount the late comeback.
Mississippi State returns to action after a week break when it travels to take on rival Ole Miss on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 3:00 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
