Bulldogs Hosting Baylor, Bellarmine In Sunday Doubleheader
February 17, 2024 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's tennis boasts the best record in the Southeastern Conference.
The 7-1 Bulldogs will try to continue building upon their stellar start to the season by hosting a Sunday doubleheader against Baylor and Bellarmine. MSU is set to take on the Bears at 11 a.m. followed by the Knights at 3 p.m. inside the Rula Tennis Pavilion.
Chris Hooshyar's Bulldogs have been perfect at home this season, earning all seven of their wins in front of the Maroon and White faithful. State has won 11 straight non-conference matches at home and 71 of the last 72 such contests dating back to Feb. 27, 2013.
Mississippi State is coming off a 5-2 win against Louisiana on Friday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The duo of Dharani Niroshan and Alessia Tagliente helped the Bulldogs capture the doubles point against the Ragin' Cajuns and have now won six-consecutive matches and 10 of their last 11 together.
Baylor enters Sunday's showdown with a 2-4 record. The Bears have dropped back-to-back road matches at then No. 21 Washington 4-2 last Sunday and Ole Miss 4-1 on Friday.
Baylor's singles lineup features 82nd-ranked Miska Kadleckova, who sports a flawless 4-0 record this season.
Sunday's match will be just the third meeting between the Bulldogs and Bears and first in Starkville. Baylor won both of the previous matches, 4-3. MSU's Chloé Cirotte secured a singles victory the last time the two teams faced off on Feb. 20, 2022 in Waco, Texas.
Bellarmine is 6-6 on the year and have won three in a row. The Knights topped Tennessee State and Marian University by 6-1 scores at home earlier this month and are riding high following a 4-3 win at Louisville on Friday.
