February 18, 2024 | Men's Golf
PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Following the winter break, the No. 18 Mississippi State men's golf team is set to compete in its first team tournament of 2024 at the Watersound Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama.Â
The Bulldogs will play 54 holes over three days on the par 72, 7,246-yard course at the Shark's Tooth Golf Course in Panama City.Â
Mississippi State is one of eight ranked teams in the 12-team field that also includes No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 13 Florida State, Notre Dame, and host, No. 11 Alabama.Â
"We are looking forward to the week," head coach Dusty Smith said. "Shark's Tooth is a great test of golf that will challenge us both mentally and physically."Â
The Bulldogs are set to tee off at 9:10 a.m. CT on Monday to start the first round. State is set to send out their fourth unique team lineup of this season. The Bulldogs will be represented by Hunter Logan, Garrett Endicott, Josep Serra, Drew Wilson and Harrison Davis. The five players included in team scoring will also be joined by Alejandro Fierro, who is competing individually for the third time this season. Â
"We are ready to get back in the arena and compete to our standard," Smith continued. "We need to focus on our approach and what makes us play well. We're excited to take the challenge in front of us head on."Â
Logan enters the tournament as the nation's No. 20 ranked collegiate golfer and has shot par or better in 10 of 14 rounds this season, good for most on the team. Eight of those rounds have been in the 60s, which is the most on the team, and he has finished inside the top-three twice this season. Logan earned an individual crown at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate and was named SEC Golfer of the Week for his efforts. Â
Endicott moves back up into the No. 2 spot for the Bulldogs after competing third at the Kapolei Invitational. At the aforementioned event, he shot all three of his rounds at par or better, giving him eight total par or better rounds on the season. He has twice earned top-20 finishes this season.Â
Serra ranked among the top 20 in the SEC with a 70.57 stroke average last fall. He also is the second-highest on the team with nine rounds of par or better play this season. Earlier in the fall, Serra earned the first top-three finish of his Division I career, finishing tied for third at the Fallen Oak Collegiate. Alongside that finish, he has placed inside the top-20 twice this season.Â
Wilson is set to make his team debut for the Bulldogs after a stellar individual performance at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate earlier this month. In his Bulldog debut, Wilson shot a 7-under 209 and was the highest placing freshman in the field, tying for third. His career-low 65 in the second round tied for the lowest round by a Bulldog this season. Wilson went on to be named SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week as recognition for his performance.Â
Davis will play in the No. 5 spot for the Bulldogs following his third straight top-20 finish. Earlier this season, Davis earned his best finish since the 2021-22 season with an 11th place finish at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational. Â
Fierro will compete individually in what is his third tournament of the year. He carded an even-par 71 in the first round of the SEC Match Play earlier this season. Last time out, he tied for 22nd at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate. This summer he competed with Team Poland in the European Amateur Team Championship.Â
