December 10, 2024 | Football
STARKVILLE – On Tuesday, the Southeastern Conference announced its 2024 Coaches' All-SEC Teams, with three Mississippi State Bulldogs represented in Isaac Smith, Kevin Coleman Jr. and Davon Booth.
Smith was named to the second team as a defensive back, Coleman earned third team honors as a wide receiver and Booth was an all-purpose honoree on the third team.
Smith, a sophomore from Fulton, Miss., earned Second Team All-SEC honors after a stellar campaign in which he ended the regular season as the SEC's leading tackler with 127 tackles. He also ranked fifth nationally in total tackles. While leading the SEC in tackles, Smith became the third consecutive Bulldog to end the regular season as the conference's leading tackler, joining Jett Johnson in 2022 and Nathaniel Watson in 2023. On the year, Smith added 1.5 tackles for loss, three pass deflections and one forced fumble to his totals. Starting all 11 games he played in, Smith led the Bulldogs in tackles six times while earning double-digit tackles seven times. He earned a career-best 20 total tackles at No. 7 Tennessee, becoming just the sixth player since 1994 to have a 20+ tackle game. As of Dec. 10, he is one of four FBS players with 20+ tackles in a single game this season while also being the only FBS player to achieve that feat against a Power-4 opponent.
Coleman, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., earned Third Team All-SEC honors after having one of the best receiving seasons in program history. In his first season in Starkville, Coleman hauled in 74 receptions for 932 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 6.2 receptions per game, 12.6 yards per reception and 77.7 yards per game while hauling in a season-long catch of 80 yards against Arizona State, the longest reception for a Bulldog since 2019. At the conclusion of the regular season, Coleman ranked second in the SEC total receptions (T-21st in the FBS), fourth in receiving yards (31st in the FBS) and was tied for eighth in touchdown receptions (T-64th in the FBS). He found himself on two Mississippi State single-season top 10 lists, with his 74 receptions being tied for fourth and his 932 yards ranking as the fifth most by a Bulldog. He is also one of just six Bulldogs all-time with at least 65 receptions in a single season. Coleman extended his career-long streak of consecutive games with a reception to 29 straight games. In doing so, he also managed to catch at least 5 passes in 10 consecutive games and 11 of the team's 12 games. He had six games in 2024 with a reception of at least 30 yards, and he had 39 receptions that went for 10+ yards, the second-highest total in the SEC and the 17th most in the FBS. Coleman had four 100+ yard receiving games in 2024, with three coming against SEC opponents.
Booth, a senior from North Las Vegas, Nev., earned Third Team All-SEC honors as an all-purpose player for his efforts as a rusher, receiver and kick returner. He led Mississippi State in all-purpose yards with 1,231 yards, averaging 102.6 yards per game. On the year, he rushed for a team-high 759 yards, earning 164 yards through the air and 308 yards on kickoff returns. At the conclusion of the regular season, Booth's 1,231 all-purpose yards ranked second in the SEC and 41st nationally. His 759 rushing yards ranked eighth in the SEC. Booth scored nine total touchdowns in 2024, tied for the 10th most in the SEC. He had a team-high five rushing scores, the 25th most in the SEC, finishing second on the team with four receiving touchdowns, tied for 19th in the SEC. Booth had a season-long streak of six consecutive games with a rushing or receiving touchdown. He also led Mississippi State in explosive plays (20+ yards) with nine and even had a streak of five straight games with a rush of at least 30 yards. Against Arkansas, he caught a 54-yard touchdown, giving him the longest touchdown reception by a State running back since 2021. He became the first Bulldog in over a year to rush for 100+ yards in a single game when he rushed for 125 at No. 7 Tennessee before rushing for 124 yards against Missouri in State's next contest.
