State Falls to Alabama in Five Sets

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Mississippi State Volleyball squad dropped Friday's matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide, 3-2.
Despite the outcome, numerous Dawgs set season-bests against the Crimson Tide. Rebecca Walk picked up a season-high 13 kills in the contest, besting her previous best by one. Walk also led the Bulldogs with eight blocks in the contest, her second-highest total this season. Mele Corral-Blagojevich finished with a season and career-high eight kills, while also tying her season-best 15 digs.
Karli Schmidt led the Dawgs in the contest with 17 kills. This marked Schmidt's seventh straight match with double-digit kills and the eighth game this season she had 15 or more. Arissa Smith was efficient on the offensive side of the net, picking up 11 kills on 18 total swings. She finished with a team-best .611 attacking percentage, the fourth time she's attacked above .600 on ten or more swings.
McKenna Yates once again proved to be a ball magnet, picking up a team-leading 25 digs. Yates has now picked up more than 20 digs in the last two matchups for the Dawgs. She's now picked up double-digit digs in 11 matches this season, including six of the last seven matches. Mary Neal picked up 15 digs, the second most the Marietta, Georgia native has collected this season.
Running the offense against the Tide was Ceci Harness, who picked up 48 assists in the contest, her second-best mark this season.
State will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Oxford to take on the Ole Miss Rebels. First serve is set for 12 p.m. on the SEC Network.
