Dawgs Fall To #25 Tigers in Four Sets

STARKVILLE -Â The Mississippi State Bulldogs fell to the #25 Auburn Tigers, dropping the match 3-1.
The Bulldogs took set one 25-20 after taking the first point on an ace by Erin Kline. After a lead switch early in the match, the Bulldogs regained the lead at 3-2 on an attack error from Auburn. The Bulldogs held the lead and won the set on another attack error by the Tigers. The Bulldogs couldn't capitalized on the set one advantage, as they dropped the next three sets. Â
Arissa Smith had a team best 12 kills as well as a team best hitting percentage of .476. This is Smith's ninth match hitting above .400. Kailin Newsome picked up nine kills, while Karli Schmidt collected eight on a .381 percentage. Â
Three Bulldogs picked up an ace in today's match: Erin Kline, Mary Neal, and Mele Corral-Blagojevich. Neal and Blagojevich have collected an ace in eight matches and Kline has picked up an ace in five matches.Â
Kailin Newsome led the team in digs tallying 8 followed by Kline and Neal, who picked up 7 apiece. Kline led the team in assists with 19, while Ceci Harness collected 15.Â
The Bulldogs are back on the road for their next match in Columbia, Missouri facing the Missouri Tigers. The match is set for October 20 at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on SEC Network.Â
