Mississippi State Track and Field Concludes Razorback Invitational
January 27, 2024 | Track & Field
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Mississippi State track and field team improved individual bests and program records as it concluded the Razorback Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Bulldogs saw 13 new personal bests set, and three individuals earn their spot on the MSU top performances list on the final day of competition.
Highlighting State's successful performances at the Razorback Invite was senior Jhordyn Stallworth, who broke her own Mississippi State record in the shot put Saturday afternoon. Stallworth shattered the previous record she set last year15.78m (51' 9.25") with a distance of 16.40m (53' 9.75").
Freshman thrower Roury McCloyen continued to show improvements in the shot put as well, building upon his successful debut a few weeks ago at the Vulcan Invite. In just his second collegiate meet, McCloyen jumped two spots on State's all-time performance list with his new PR. He now sits in 3rd on the list with a throw of 18.61m (61' 75").
Tyrese Reid, a senior and middle-distance runner, broke into State's all-time performance list for the first time Saturday in the 800m. Reid's time of 1:48.50 also ranks as the 4th fastest time in the SEC this season.
The Bulldogs will take a break from the track for a week and then divide into two with one group going to Clemson, S.C. for the Tiger Paw while the other will go to Nashville for the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt.
Quoting Coach Woods
"My Overall View of the weekend is positive. We had some shortcomings but I'm happy with the way the group battled over the weekend. We have shown great improvement from our last competition. We are obviously looking for more improvement as we move deeper into the regular season. I'm Excited about how well we will and can perform after having an off week to get some solid practice in."
