Bulldogs Find Success On Opening Day Of Tiger Paw Invite & Music City Challenge
February 09, 2024 | Track & Field
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Mississippi State track and field team continued to improve personal bests and set program records on the first day of the Tiger Paw Invite and the Music City Challenge on Friday. The Bulldogs recorded 18 new personal records on the first day of the two day meets, five more than the total number of improvements recorded at State's previous meet in Fayetteville, Ark.
Highlighting State's success was sophomore sprinter Danarrion Ard, who tied for 5th on the MSU all-time top five
performance list in the 60m. At the Tiger Paw Invite, Ard earned a time of 6.71, beating his previous time by four
hundredths of a second. In the same race, junior Keldrick Turner Jr. and senior Mike Wright both ran personal best
times, improving by almost half a second.
Rosealee Cooper set new personal bests twice on Friday on her way to the finals in the 60mh at the Tiger Paw Invite. Cooper, an NCAA Indoor Championship qualifier in the 60m hurdles last year, finished 6th in the finals, while hurdlers Jessicka Woods and Kennedy Jackson improved their personal bests in the qualifying round by nearly three tenths of a second each.
The Music City Challenge saw success on both the track and in the field, highlighted by freshman thrower Roury McCloyen and junior distance runner Hayley Ogle. McCloyen threw a personal best distance of 17.10m (56' 1.25") in the weight throw, smashing his previous record of 15.90m (52' 2"). Ogle, in a final push for the finish line, crushed her career best mark in the mile by over seven seconds, earning first in her heat and 14th overall.
