STARKVILLE - The Mississippi State Track and Field team kicked off its 2024 indoor season with a successful opener at the UAB Vulcan Invite on Saturday, Jan. 13. The Bulldogs completed the meet with 16 first-place finishes and 37 top-five finishes.

The Bulldog's opening campaign was highlighted by freshman Jordan Ware in the 200m, and Roury McCloyen in the Shot put. Ware broke the Vulcan Invite 200m record with a time of 20.93, which currently ranks 4th nationally. McCloyen earned his first career collegiate victory in the shot put with a distance of 17.47m, the furthest shot put thrown by a freshman at MSU since 2003.

Jhordyn Stallworth earned a pair of first-place finishes in both the shot put and weight throw, while Ramat Jimoh took home the gold in the 3000m and silver in the mile.

Tyrese Reid led the Bulldog sweep of the men's 600m. He was joined by teammates Dan Joyce, Samuel Navarro and AJ Hale, who finished second through fourth, respectively.

Sophomore Mallory Streetman led the women's 600m, with junior Hayley Ogle and senior Kethlin Campbell finishing in third and fourth, respectively.

The meet was completed with a women's 4x200m (A) relay and a men's 4x400m (A) relay first place finish.

Also earning first-place finishes at the Vulcan Invite were Rosealee Cooper (60m hurdles), Rickyla Fagan (200m), AJ Hale Jr. (300m), Sema'j Daniels (400m), Hunter Anderson (mile) and Kennedy Jackson (long jump).

Quoting Coach Woods
"Overall good day from this group of athletes. It's early in the season and we have a lot of things that we can improve on. I'm proud of the way we competed today, and I am looking for more of the energy that we had today throughout the remainder of the season. It's good to get wins when we can and we did plenty of that today. Our goal is to continue the trend."
