Dawg Place Four On D1 Baseball Top 130 Impact Transfers

STARKVILLE – With baseball season just around the corner, D1 Baseball has named its 2024 Top 130 Impact Transfers, and the Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs had four players represented on the list.

The four representing the Dawgs were Karson Ligon (No. 27), Khal Stephen (No. 53), Cam Schuelke (No. 75) and Logan Kohler (No. 95). The full list can be seen by clicking here.

Ligon, a junior right-handed pitcher, is ranked No. 27 in the D1 Baseball Top 130 transfers. In two years at Miami, Ligon appeared in 26 games, making 25 starts on the mound. He pitched 126 innings in his two years and had an ERA of 4.86. He tallied nine wins and had 104 punchouts. During the 2022 season, Ligon was named to the ACC All-Freshmen Team.

Right-hander Stephen joins the Dawgs after spending the last two years at Purdue. The No. 53 ranked Impact Transfer by D1 Baseball was a Third Team All-Big Ten selection in 2023. During his sophomore season for Purdue, Stephen helped propel the Boilermakers to a 6-2 record on Fridays in Big Ten play. He led the team with seven victories, 76 innings, and 66 strikeouts as a sophomore.

Schuelke, the No. 75 ranked impact transfer, joins the Dawgs after winning the NJCAA National Championship at College of Central Florida. Coming out of the pen, Schuelke made 32 appearances and pitched 60.1 innings during 2023. He picked up nine wins and had an ERA of 2.09. He tallied 86 strikeouts, while picking up eight saves.

Second Team All-AAC infielder, Kohler, came in ranked as the 95th best impact transfer. Kohler leads the Tigers with a .328 batting average, has slugged 10 home runs and driven in 32 runs and ranks second on the club with a dozen doubles. He started 49 games at third base and went 5-for-5 against Houston on April 22 to become the first Tiger with a five-hit game since Darien Tubbs in 2016.

The 2024 season gets underway on Feb. 16 when the Diamond Dawgs host Air Force in a three-game series at Dudy Noble Field.

Mississippi State's 56-game schedule features 35 home games, 17 road contests, and four neutral-site matchups. The schedule features a 12-game homestand to open the campaign (Feb. 16 – March 2) and a five-game homestand from April 2-9. Â
