State Drops Five-Set Battle To Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – Mississippi State volleyball dropped a tightly-contested, five-set battle to Kennesaw State on Saturday night at the KSU Convocation Center.
The Bulldogs move to 5-2 on the year, and Kennesaw State improves to 6-2 during the 2023 campaign.
State took charge in the first two sets with 25-23 and 25-18 victories, but the Owls answered back by taking the following three sets [25-23, 25-19, 15-9].
The Bulldogs were balanced on the offensive front on Saturday night, with Karli Schmidt leading the way with her 18-kill performance on a .405 hitting clip. Sophie Agee followed behind with 17 kills, while adding eight digs, three blocks and an ace.
Rebecca Walk added eight kills and a team-leading seven blocks on the night, while Amina Shackelford posted a seven-kill effort and collected four blocks.
Mississippi State's setters, Alexa Fortin Goede and Emily Oerther, paired up for a strong all-around effort of 45 assists and 11 digs.
Lauren Myrick wore the libero jersey en route to 18 digs and six assists. She has collected 10-plus digs during every match this season. Mary Neal came away with 11 digs and three aces.
As a team, the Bulldogs managed 58 kills on a .248 hitting percentage. State also totaled 62 digs and 14 blocks.
Mississippi State will close out the Kennesaw State Invitational on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT against Wake Forest.
