MSU Drops Sunday Matchup Against Wake Forest

KENNESAW, Ga. – Mississippi State volleyball fell in straight sets to Wake Forest to close out the Kennesaw State Invitational on Sunday.
Amina Shackelford provided a team-leading seven kills on .429 hitting mark and tacked on a block, while Karli Schmidt came away with five kills and two blocks.
MSU's setters, Alexa Fortin Goede and Emily Oerther, combined for 18 assists and 11 digs. Individually, Goede provided 11 assists and 8 digs, while Oerther recorded seven assists and three digs.Â
The Bulldogs (5-3) are back at home next weekend for the Maroon and White Invite to close out the non-conference slate. MSU will host Lipscomb on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. and then close out the weekend against Abilene Christian on Saturday at 5 p.m. Admission is free to all home volleyball matches.
First Set (Wake Forest 25, Mississippi State 16)
The Bulldogs tallied 11 kills in the first set, however it wasn't enough with Wake Forest holding the lead the whole set.
Second Set (Wake Forest 25, Mississippi State 16)
Mississippi State fought back in the second set, going punch-for-punch early. For the second set there was 11 tied scores. A timeout was called by State when the Bulldogs were down 18-14. However, Wake Forest converted five straight for a 23-14 advantage before taking a 2-0 match lead.
Third Set (Wake Forest 25, Mississippi State 14)
Wake Forest established an early lead and never let go, taking the third set convincingly.
