State Hosts No. 12 Tennessee On Friday

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State volleyball will host No. 12 Tennessee inside the Newell-Grissom Building on Friday for its first ranked match-up for the 2023 season.
"We are always excited for a chance to play at home. We are welcoming a very good Tennessee team to 'The Griss'," head coach Julie Darty Dennis. "I know this is going to be a great test for us to really see where we are and I am just excited for us to have the opportunity to play a Top 20 opponent at home! We know we have to be ready for a battle, and we know we have to bring our best effort. I am really excited to see us rise to the occasion and play quality Mississippi State Volleyball. It's about us right now, and we know that."
Friday's first serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT, streamed live courtesy of SEC Network+ and available online through the Watch ESPN app.
Admission is free for all home volleyball matches with gates opening one hour prior to first serve. The first 100 fans will receive free barbeque.
Sophie Agee and Karli Schmidt continue to shine as an outside hitters for State. The duo has piled up 14 matches of double-digit kills for the 2023 campaign.
Agee has compiled a trio of double-doubles on the season. She has powered home 10-plus kills in five matches and 10-plus digs in three matches. For the season, Agee has collected 2.44 kills and 2.17 digs per set.
Schmidt has amassed 10 or more kills in 11 of 12 outings. For the season, Schmidt has cranked 3.45 kills per set on a .256 hitting percentage and ranks 10th on the SEC leaderboard in kills.
Amina Shackelford had been a force at the net by leading the team with 38 blocks and tallying 82 kills on the season.
Middle blocker Rebecca Walk has collected 1.72 kills per set on a .407 hitting mark in the nine matches she has appeared in. Her .407 hitting clip ranks third in the SEC.
Caylee Sharkey and Sanaa Williams have combined for 1.95 kills and 1.27 blocks per set.
Lauren Myrick continues to spearhead the back row wearing the libero jersey. She has ripped off 10-plus digs in 10 appearances, fueled by 20 or more digs in four of those outings. Her 4.45 digs per set are fourth in the SEC standings.
Defensive Specialist Mary Neal has earned 2.16 digs and 0.30 aces per set.
State's setting tandem of Alexa Fortin Goede and Emily Oerther has teamed up to hand out 9.12 assists per set on the season. The duo has combined for five double-doubles in 2023.
