State Host Alabama For SEC Home Opener

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's volleyball team host Alabama for its SEC home opener on Sunday.
First serve is slated for 4 p.m. and will be televised nationally on SEC Network. Admission is free for all home volleyball matches with doors opening one hour prior to first serve.
"We are looking forward to our SEC home opener on Sunday," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "I am hoping that our family will show up and show out, be loud and proud, and give us that edge we are so fortunate to have when we play at home! Alabama is a tough team, and they are hungry for a win just like we are, so it will be a battle. We need everyone to come out and help us Pack the Griss! Hail State!"
The Bulldogs have won the last two matchups against the Crimson Tide, with the latest coming on Nov. 5, 2022, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Mississippi Sate ranks among the SEC's top 5 in blocks per set (3rd – 2.49) and digs per set (4th – 13.95).
Right side Amina Shackelford has registered 1.83 kills per set and 0.88 blocks per set. She recorded a season-high eight blocks versus Louisiana (08/27) and leads the team with a total of 36 blocks.
Karli Schmidt has ripped 3.46 kills per set on a .259 hitting percentage. She has reeled in 10-plus kills in eight out of eleven matches, headed by a career-high 19-kill performance against FIU (09/02).
Sophie Agee has had a stellar sophomore campaign, managing 2.37 kills and 2.03 digs per set. She tallied a career-high 21 kills and 21 digs against Western Michigan (09/08).
Caylee Sharkey has secured 1.05 kills per set, while Sanaa Williams has provided 0.88 kills per set and 0.96 blocks per set.
Mississippi State setters, Alexa Fortin Goede and Emily Oerther, have combined to dish out 370 assists and 128 digs. Individually, Goede has issued 4.98 assists per set and three double-doubles on the season. Oerther has provided 4.15 assists per set and one double-double for the year.
Libero Lauren Myrick has reeled in 10-plus digs during nine of eleven matches. She has eclipsed 20-plus digs in four matches this season, fueled by a career-best 27 digs against Louisiana (08/27). Myrick's 4.39 digs per set is fourth among SEC liberoes.
Defensive Specialist Mary Neal has started her freshman season off with 2.15 digs per set. Neal made her debut in the libero jersey during MSU's match against Abilene Christian (09/16) where she tallied a season-best 16 digs and five assists, while adding three aces.
