Bulldogs Drop SEC Opener At Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Mississippi State volleyball fell in straight sets on Wednesday, dropping its SEC opener to Texas A&M in the Reed Arena.Â

Texas A&M (9-2, 1-0 SEC) opened with a 25-20 opening set win. The Bulldogs (7-4, 0-1 SEC) kept it close in the final two frames, but the Aggies ultimately came away with a win.Â
Â
Karli Schmidt led State with nine kills on a .350 hitting percentage. Amina Shackelford followed behind Schmidt with eight kills and added three blocks.Â
Â
Middle blocker, Rebecca Walk registered seven kills on a .417 hitting mark and a team-leading four blocks. Sophie Agee came away with three kills and two blocks.Â
Â
Mississippi State's setting tandem of Alexa Fortin Goede and Emily Oerther teamed up for 23 assists. Goede distributed 15 assists, three digs and an ace, whereas Oether notched eight assists.Â

Lauren Myrick sprawled out for eight digs, three assists and two aces donning the libero jersey.Â

Next up is Mississippi State's SEC home opener which is set for Sunday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. against Alabama for a nationally televised matchup by SEC Network. Admission is free for all home volleyball matches at the Newell-Grissom Building with doors opening one hour prior to first serve.Â
