Bulldogs Topped By UCF In Four

ORLANDO, Fla. – UCF volleyball stood its ground at home on Friday night in The Venue for a four-set victory against Mississippi State volleyball (3-1).
After dropping the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-17, MSU fought back in set three with a 25-21 victory. The fourth set went back and forth, but the Knights held off the battling Bulldogs in the final set, 25-19.
Graduate libero Lauren Myrick was a bright spot for State with 20 digs. The Louisville, Kentucky native has collected double-digit digs in all four matches this fall.
Karli Schmidt led the Bulldogs for the fourth match in a row with 13 kills and did it efficiently, carrying a .375 hitting percentage. Schmidt is averaging a team-high 3.67 kills per set through four matches.
Senior Rebecca Walk led the team with four blocks while also accumulating eight kills. Sophie Agee followed right behind Walk with seven kills while adding five digs and a block.
Mississippi State's setters, Alexa Fortin Goede and Emily Oerther, dished out a combined 32 assists and picked up 10 digs.
Freshman Mary Neal tallied 11 digs while coming away with two aces.
Caylee Sharkey provided five kills, two digs and a block, whereas Amina Shackelford came away with four kills and three blocks.
Mississippi State faces FIU on Saturday to close out its time at the UCF Challenge. First serve is set for 4 p.m. CT and will be available via live stats.
