State looks to even the series against the Vols on Friday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – On a gloomy day in Knoxville, the Mississippi State Bulldogs were unable to secure a comeback victory over the Tennessee Volunteers, falling by a score of 8-7. The Diamond Dawgs came back from a six-run deficit to tie the game in the ninth.

Luke Hancock and David Mershon both had multi-hit days for the Bulldogs in game one of the series. Hancock went 2-for-4, including a two-run double in the seventh. Mershon picked up his fourth multi-hit day in his fourteenth start of the year. Colton Ledbetter, Slate Alford and Hunter Hines also picked up homers in the contest. With Hines' game-tying homer in the ninth, he moved into the top 10 for most home runs in a single season in Mississippi State history.

Tyler Davis held the Volunteers hitless in his relief appearance on the mound. He went 2.2 innings while picking up three strikeouts.

The Bulldogs look to even the series against Tennessee tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT and is set to broadcast on SECN+.
