Diamond Dawgs Fall in Pitching Duel to Tigers

Bulldogs allow just four hits to Tigers
AUBURN, Ala. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs dropped a tight contest against the Auburn Tigers in the first game of the series, falling by a score of 2-1. The game-winning run came across for the Tigers in the 8th inning.
Cade Smith allowed only three hits in the start. He finished six innings with six strikeouts while allowing just one run. Nate Dohm entered in relief in the seventh. He picked up a pair of strikeouts in two innings of work while allowing one hit and one unearned run.
David Mershon led the bats today for the Bulldogs. He finished 2-for-3 in the contest while also reaching on a walk. He picked up the game-tying RBI in the fifth when he drove Amani Larry in. Colton Ledbetter and Luke Hancock also entered the hit column for State.
The Diamond Dawgs and Tigers continue the series with game two on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on SECN+.
Cooper McMurray grabbed the game's first run with a solo homer.
