Tagliente Named To SEC Community Service Team
April 13, 2023 | Women's Tennis
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State's women's tennis' Alessia Tagliente has earned a spot on the 2023 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced on Thursday.
"Being a student-athlete is not always easy, sometimes it can be very stressful; but being involved and engaged in community service has helped me in release the everyday stress that I experience," Tagliente said. "It is a great way to distract myself. Furthermore, it is always a great opportunity to be around new people and of course help others. Lastly, it helps you as an individual to develop, learn new things about yourself and is a great way to make yourself feel better after a long and stressful week."
Tagliente is one of 14 members named to the SEC Community service team for women's tennis. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior efforts.
The Turin, Italy native has been an active member in the Starkville community throughout her two years at Mississippi State thus far. Most notably, Tagliente has dedicated her time to Service Dawg Day where she helped clean up debris at a local park in Starkville. Tagliente was one of many MSU student-athletes who participated with Starkville Strong to organize donated clothing and stock them on shelves.
"Here at Mississippi State, I had the opportunity to take part in several community service projects," Tagliente said. "Being able to help people, made me feel great and closer to the community. I feel that being able to participate in community service has been a great experience. I had the chance to face new challenges and go out of my comfort zone, but the most important thing for me is that I had the chance to contribute to the community. I would recommend that to every student-athlete. Being engaged in the community and help others is significantly important."
In addition, she participated in Partnership Middle School Morning Drop off as well as write motivational notes to the students. She also wrote Valentine's Day cards to residents at an assisted living home. On MLK Service Day Tagliente helped clean up the Boys and Girls Club facilities.
Tagliente also took part in the StarkVegas Futbol Jamboree, Trick or Treat with Our Dawgs and the SOUP Flag Football event that was for the Special Olympics program here on State's campus.
