Dawgs Fall to Arizona State in Series Opener

MSU is back in action on Saturday for game two of the series against Arizona State
STARKVILLE – Playing in their second-weekend series of the year, the Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs (3-3) took on Arizona State (5-0) Friday at Dudy Noble Field. A combination of the Sun Devil's offense and pitching slowed the Dawgs' momentum, and MSU was defeated 13-4 to open the three-game series.
Hunter Hines led the Dawgs at the dish tonight, going two-for-four in the game. He also tallied one RBI single in the game. Five other Bulldogs collected a hit on the game. Lane Forsythe picked up a two-run single in the sixth inning for MSU.
Brock Tapper came out of the pen tonight and threw three and two-thirds of four-hit ball and did not allow a run. He tallied four strikeouts in the game to lead the Dawgs. Cole Cheatham pitched one inning of relief and had two strikeouts.
The Dawgs and the Sun Devils return to action on Saturday at 5 p.m. from Dudy Noble Field. The game will air on SECN+.
Arizona State took the lead early with a Luke Keaschall home run to left. Wyatt Crenshaw scored on a passed ball later in the inning. With the bases loaded, Will Rogers hit a sac fly to deep left, which scored Ryan Campos.
