Dawgs Hit Three Bombs in the 9-3 Sunday victory

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State (2-1) baseball team bounced back on Sunday afternoon as they earned a 9-3 victory over VMI (1-2) to take the series. In the win the Dawgs hit three home runs and had five extra base hits in the game.

MSU found themselves down early in the game. After two and a half innings, VMI head a 3-0 advantage. The Diamond Dawg bats came to life in the bottom of the third. Amani Larry opened the scoring for the Bulldogs, sending a two-run home run to left. Larry finished 2-for-5 with 4 RBIs. Kellum Clark went 2-for-3 on the day with two solo home runs, the second time in his career he hit two home runs in one game.

Landon Gartman drew the start for State, going five innings and striking out eight, five of those being in the 3^rd and 4^th innings. After Gartman, a combination of four Bulldog pitchers saw action, each going an inning a piece. Aaron Nixon entered the game in the ninth inning, striking out three to close the game.

The Diamond Dawgs are back in action Tuesday to continue the eight game homestand to open as they host ULM. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. on the SECN+.

Ty Swaim led off the game with a double, advancing to third on a wild pitch. Zac Morris singled to center to score the first run of the game.

An infield single from Brett Cook scored Justin Starke from third. After advancing to third, Cook scored on a single.

Amani Larry hit a two-run shot to left field to bring the Dawgs within one.

Kellum Clark hit a solo home run to lead off the inning.

Clark hit a solo homer, his second of the game, giving the Dawgs the lead.

Bottom Eighth
Bryce Chance crossed the plate after Forsythe reached on a fielder's choice. With runners on second and third, Larry singled up the middle to score Ross Highfill and Lane Forsythe. A wild pitch allowed Larry to score. Dakota Jordan hit a sac fly to center to push Colton Ledbetter across.
