MSU Records Fall As More Bulldogs Move Up In National Ranks
February 11, 2023 | Track & Field
CLEMSON, S.C. / NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Navasky Anderson joined Cameron Crump and Tony Jones as a national qualifier, while Kamaya Debose-Epps rewrote the record books on the women's side as Mississippi State track and field wrapped up the final day of action at the Tiger Paw Invitational and Music City Challenge on Saturday (Feb. 11).
Â
At the Tiger Paw Invitational, Debose-Epps became the second Bulldog to break a long-standing school record this weekend after she posted a time of 23.64 in the women's 200m dash on Saturday. The previous record was held by Falilatu Ogunkoya, who posted a time of 23.89 in 1988.
Â
She joined Cameron Crump, who shined on day one in Clemson and set a new school record and facility record in the men's long jump with a first-place mark of 8.21m (26-11.25). The previous school record was held by Festus Igbinoghene (7.86m) in 1991. Crump's mark currently ranks first in the SEC and second nationally.
Â
In Nashville, Navasky Anderson ran the fastest 800m ever by a Jamaican-born athlete on his way to a first-place finish with a time of 1:46.58. Anderson's time ranks second in the SEC and fifth nationally.
Â
With Saturday's performance, Anderson is now one of three Mississippi State national qualifiers, along with Cameron Crump (long jump) and Tony Jones (high jump). On Friday, Jones claimed first place in the men's high jump with a personal-best mark of 2.20m (7-02.50). He ranks third in the SEC and 10th nationally in the high jump following the weekend.
Â
Mississippi State foursome Doval Simmonds, Anthony Brodie, Lee Eppie and Gabriel Moronta closed out the Tiger Paw Invitational by posting a season-best time of 3:05.23 in the men's 4x400m relay. That time ranks second all-time in school history, seventh in the SEC and 17th nationally following today's action.
Â
MSU will return to action on Feb. 24-25 when the Bulldogs travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the 2023 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
