Walk Named To 2023 SEC Community Service Team
November 29, 2023 | Volleyball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference office announced that Mississippi State volleyball senior Rebecca Walk was named to the 2023 SEC Community Service Team on Wednesday.
"We are super proud of Rebecca for her efforts in the community," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "She is a role model student-athlete and I am so proud of her. She takes care of her work on and off the court, while still finding time to give back to our wonderful community. Rebecca is a true servant leader and I am so proud of her!"
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for 21 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior efforts. This marks the 21st annual women's volleyball Community Service Team.
This year's honor marks the third time Walk has earned the award. She has been involved in several community service projects including morning drop off at the Partnership Middle School and Overstreet Elementary School on several occasions.
Walk has worked with Starkville Strong, which is a non-profit organization that helps those in need in the Starkville community. The senior donated canned food to Starkville Strong and candy to Partnership Middle School.
The Bay St. Louis native currently serves as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president. Walk attends summer meetings for the SEC with other student-athlete leaders to vote on legislation and discuss challenges in collegiate athletics.
Other duties as SAAC president include conveying information to MSU athletes and attending council meetings with school administrators once a month.
