Bulldogs Return Home To Host Georgia And Texas A&M

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State volleyball will host Georgia on Friday and Texas A&M on Sunday inside the Newell-Grissom Building.
The Bulldogs (8-6, 1-3 SEC) will open the weekend against Georgia (9-6, 0-3 SEC) at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 6, on SEC Network+. State will conclude the weekend with a match versus Texas A&M (10-4, 2-2 SEC) at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8. Sunday's match will also air on SEC Network+.
"There is nothing like being at home and playing at The Griss," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "We are really looking forward to these two matches this weekend. Georgia and Texas A&M are two extremely talented, tough teams that will be great opportunities for us to continue to work together to get better with every match we play. I know that we are excited to play in front of our family, and we sure hope our fans are ready to Pack the Griss and get it rockin' to give us that home court edge we are so proud of!"
The first 150 fans to enter Newell-Grissom on Friday will receive a Mississippi State Hawaiian shirt, and pink ribbons and pom poms will be given out for OCH Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness match on Sunday. Admission is free for all home volleyball matches with doors opening one hour prior to first serve.
Libero Lauren Myrick continues to fuel the back row. She has tallied 10-plus digs in 12 appearances, spearheaded by 20 or more digs in five of those outings. Her 4.52 digs per set are third in the SEC standings.
Defensive Specialist Mary Neal has issued 2.12 digs per set for her freshman campaign.
State's setting tandem of Alexa Fortin Goede and Emily Oerther has teamed up to hand out 9.00 assists per set and combined for six double-doubles for the season.
Sophie Agee and Karli Scmidt continue to play a major role for State as outside hitters. The duo has compiled 17 matches of double-digit kills for the 2023 campaign. Agee has piled up a trio of double-doubles on the season. She has amassed 10-plus kills in seven matches. For the season, Agee has collected 2.51 kills and 2.08 digs per set.
Schmidt has amassed 10 or more kills in 10 of 14 outings. She has cranked 3.25 kills per set on a .241 hitting mark.
Right side Amina Shackelford has been lights out at the net by leading the team with 0.94 (49) blocks and tallying 1.87 (97) kills per set.
Rebecca Walk has earned 1.68 kills per set on .409 hitting percentage in the 11 matches she has appeared in. Her .409 hitting clip ranks fourth in the SEC.
Middle blocker Sanaa Williams has totaled 1.03 blocks per set, while right side Caylee Sharkey has registered 1.10 kills and 0.33 blocks per set.
MSU faced UGA last season for its SEC opener, with the match resulting in a 3-1 win for the Bulldogs. State saw a 3-0 loss to the Aggies to open SEC play in College Station, Texas, earlier this season.
