Bulldogs Fall To No. 20 Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Mississippi State volleyball team fell to No. 20 Kentucky in straight sets on Friday night.
The Wildcats took the first set 25-20, followed by a 25-12 win in the second to take the 2-0 match led. Kentucky closed out the match with a tightly-contested 25-22 victory in the final frame.
Sophie Agee led the offensive attack for MSU, finishing with 13 kills and provided two blocks, two digs and an ace. Amina Shackelford followed with five kills and a block.
Karli Schmidt recorded four kills and a block, while Rebecca Walk added three kills on the night.
State's setter Emily Oerther dished out a team-leading 15 assists in the three-setter, while freshman Erin Kline collected eight digs and two assists. Alexa Fortin Goede added three assists of her own. Â
Defensively, libero Lauren Myrick sprawled out for 11 digs and added four assists, while defensive specialist Mary Neal issued seven digs on the night.
Sanaa Williams came away with a match-leading five blocks, while Caylee Sharkey added two blocks on the night.
The Bulldogs move to 9-9 on the year and 2-6 in SEC play, while the Wildcats improve to 9-7 overall and 7-1 in league contests.
Mississippi State is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 22, when they take on Ole Miss inside the Newell-Grissom Building. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. CT and will be aired nationally on SEC Network.
