#FromStateToSundays: Week 17 Update
January 03, 2023 | Football
STARKVILLE – Former Mississippi State star Dak Prescott is now tied with Troy Aikman for the second-most touchdowns in Dallas Cowboys history.
Â
Prescott completed 29 of 41 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns in the Cowboys win over the Tennessee Titans last Thursday and tied the Super Bowl champ turned commentator with 165 TD throws.
Prescott reached the milestone in 96 career games compared to Aikman's 165. He needs 83 more touchdown passes to reach Tony Romo's franchise record.
Â
Former Bulldog defensive line standouts Fletcher Cox, Chris Jones and Montez Sweat all recorded sacks during Week 17.
Cox's sack brought his season total to seven, the third-most during his 11-year career. It also brought his career total to 65, all with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Â
Jones extended his sack streak to three straight games and now has 11 sacks over his last 10 contests. His 13 sacks this season rank fifth in the NFL and now has 62.5 for his career, which is fifth in Kansas City Chiefs history.
Â
Sweat also notched his eighth sack of the season and needs one more to match his personal-best set in 2020. He has 29 over his four-year career for the Washington Commanders.
Â
Willie Gay Jr. finished second on the Chiefs with seven tackles during a tight 27-24 win over the Denver Broncos.
Johnathan Abram made his first start at strong safety for Seattle after being claimed off waivers by the Seahawks on Nov. 30. Abram played every defensive snap while making five tackles and defended a pass.
Â
Abram wasn't the only Seattle player to log every rep. Rookie offensive tackle Charles Cross also played every snap on the other side of the ball.
Â
Elgton Jenkins has been superb at left guard for Green Bay lately. Jenkins posted his third consecutive game without allowing a single pressure in the Packers' 41-17 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
Â
Logan Cooke also continued his stellar season of punting for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cooke pinned four of his five punts inside the redzone, including one at the 1-yard line. His 43.1 net punting average this season is the most in NFL history since that stat started being charted.
Â
J.T. Gray also came up clutch on special teams for New Orleans. Â Gray alertly batted a punt back at the goal line that his Saints teammates were able to down at the 4-yard line.
Â
Long snapper Hunter Bradley also made his season debut for the Arizona Cardinals. Bradley was signed to the practice squad on Dec. 28 and was activated against the Atlanta Falcons this past weekend.
