
Mississippi State Closes Out Samford Open

BIRMINGHAM – Mississippi State track and field posted a trio of first place finishes, including seven Top-5 finishes, at the Samford Open on Saturday (Jan. 21) at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
For the second straight week, Jhordyn Stallworth won the women's weight throw and posted a new personal-best with a first-place mark of 18.40m (60-04.50), while Daniel Pepper was the top attached finisher in the men's weight throw with a toss of 17.52m (57-05.75) to place second overall.
In the high jump, Miranda Tillery closed out the day by winning the women's high jump with a mark of 1.70m (5-07.00), which also tied her previous personal-best mark. Helen Claire Edmonds finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m (5-03.00).
Maddy Kish impressed in the pole vault, jumping 4.13m (13-06.50) for a first-place finish. Her winning mark was a personal-best for the Florida native and ranks second in Mississippi State history. Emma Hunt finished in third place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.73m (12-02.75).
On the track, Savannah McIntosh set a new personal-best with a time of 5:14.50 in the women's mile to finish fourth, while Asia Poe placed fourth in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.91. Grace Ritchie followed behind with a time to 5:29.89 to finish in 10th place.
MSU returns to action on Jan. 27-28 when the Bulldogs travel to Clemson, South Carolina, to compete in the Bob Pollock Invite. A full schedule and heat sheets will be available at a later date.
