Bulldogs Battle Michigan To Four-Setter
September 16, 2022 | Volleyball
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Mississippi State volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Michigan on Friday in the Crisler Center.
Â
Michigan secured the first two sets 25-16 and 25-8 respectively, while the Bulldogs answered with a 25-22 victory in the third. The Wolverines claimed the fourth set 25-16 to secure the match.Â
Â
"Michigan is an extremely physical team," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "We didn't execute our game plan well enough, for long enough to stay in that match. I am proud of our response after set two. Seeing our team bounce back like that is a positive, but we have to find a way to compete that hard and for longer stretches of time. I believe in this team and they believe in each other. We certainly got the tough competition we wanted before we start SEC play next week."
Â
Emily Oerther and Gabby Coulter combined for 37 assists and 11 digs. Oerther garnered a season-high with 16 assists on the night.Â
Â
Shania Cromartie tallied 11 kills on a .474 attacking percentage while adding five digs. Lauren Myrick followed suit with 10 kills, two digs and two blocks. Gabby Waden added seven kills and one block.Â
Â
Lilly Gunter came away with 14 digs and two assists.Â
Â
"We are excited to get home, get focused and start our conference slate on our home court," Dennis said. "We need our FaMily more than ever right now, so we hope to see everyone at The Griss on Wednesday."
