Dawgs Drop Game Two in Florida Series

The series finale between Mississippi State and Florida is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State (25-22, 9-14 SEC) dropped game two of the series, 9-3, to Florida (28-18, 10-13 SEC), on Saturday (May 7) at Dudy Noble Field.
After being tied at 3-3 going into the eighth, Florida took the lead after a six-run inning in the top of the ninth. Preston Johnson collected his 100th strikeout on the season after he pitched five innings on the mound.
For the Bulldogs, KC Hunt (2-3) pitched 1.2 innings but received the loss after allowing six earned runs in the ninth. Johnson pitched five innings on the mound allowing only three runs on six hits and seven strikeouts. Following Johnson, Pico Kohn pitched two scoreless innings before Hunt entered the game. Cole Cheatham came on in the ninth to face one batter which ended the inning.
Offensively, Florida out-hit State 11-to-8, but a few Bulldogs collected a multi-hit game including RJ Yeager and Logan Tanner. Yeager went 2-for-4 including two doubles and Tanner went 2-for-5 and collected one RBI. Kellum Clark hit a double in the bottom of the fourth to give State their only lead of the night.

Florida takes an early lead after Wyatt Langford doubled to center followed by both Sterlin Thompson and Jud Fabian walks to load the bases. BT Riopelle hit a sacrifice fly which scored Langford.

Mississippi State quickly ties the game after a lead-off walk by RJ Yeager followed by a Luke Hancock single up the middle and a Logan Tanner single which scored Yeager.

The Bulldogs took the lead after a Hunter Hines walk followed by a Kellum Clark double down the right field line which scored Hines.

The Gators answered back scoring two runs after starting with a Langford single followed by a Thompson walk and a Jac Caglianone double to left center field which brought Langford and Thompson home.

Bottom Seventh
Mississippi State tied the game after Yeager collected his second double on the night followed by a Kamren James single then Hancock grounded into a double play which scored Yeager.

Top Ninth
Florida took a 9-3 lead after a six-run inning that started with a Thompson single followed by a Riopelle walk and a Caglianone double to left field which scored Thompson. After Josh Rivera was intentionally walked, Kendrick Calilao doubled down the right field line which brought Riopelle and Caglianone home. Ty Evens homered down the right field line which scored Calilao and Colby Halter who reached on a fielder's choice.
