State Drops Season Finale To No. 1 Tennessee

Mississippi State dropped the series finale to No. 1 Tennessee by a score of 10-5 on Saturday
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State (26-30, 9-21 SEC) dropped the series finale to No. 1 Tennessee (49-7, 25-5 SEC) by a score of 10-5 on Saturday, May 21, in front of 10,774 at Dudy Noble Field.
The Bulldogs scored first after RJ Yeager hit a lead-off home run, but Tennessee gained the lead in the second and continued to score in the next four innings to secure the win over the Bulldogs.
Kirby Connell (3-0) received the win for the Volunteers after entering the game in the fourth and throwing 2 2/3 shutout innings on the mound. Cade Smith (4-4) started and was charged with the loss for MSU after allowing three runs on one hit before Pico Kohn entered in the second and was followed by Jackson Fristoe, Cam Tullar, Drew Talley and KC Hunt.
Kohn walked four batters and gave up three runs during his 2 2/3 innings on the mound followed by Fristoe, who pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on four hits. Tullar and Talley navigated through the eighth inning. Hunt came in for the ninth inning and concluded State's season with a perfect frame.
Offensively, three Dawgs collected multi-hit games including Yeager, Kellum Clark and Kamren James. Yeager went 2-for-5 including a lead-off home run in the first to give the Bulldogs an early lead. Clark collected his 14th home run of the season and went 3-for-4 on the day. James reached base three times and collected two hits and one RBI.

Jorel Ortega reached on a walk and advanced to second after Blake Burke reached first on a dropped fly where the left fielder and shortstop collided. Cortland Lawson walked to load the bases. Seth Stephenson hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Ortega.
