Dawgs Fall To No.1 Tennessee In Game One

The series continues with game two set for 6 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at Dudy Noble Field
Tennessee led 3-0 after the first before putting together multi-run frames in every inning except for the second and fourth, including a seven-run inning in the seventh to secure the victory over State. Tennessee held a 21-0 lead over State entering the bottom of the seventh when the Bulldogs collected their first run. MSU added another in the eighth.
Tennessee's starting pitcher, Chase Dollander (8-0), pitched six no-hit, shutout innings during his time on the mound. Dollander struck out six and was followed by Mark McLaughlin, Wyatt Evans and Zander Sechrist to secure the Volunteers' win.
Brandon Smith (3-5) started for the Bulldogs and was charged the loss after allowing eight runs during his three innings on the mound. Five Dawgs followed Smith including Mikey Tepper, Cam Tullar, Jack Walker, Cole Cheatham and Andrew Walling. Tepper pitched 1.2 innings and Tullar pitched 1.1 innings. Both allowed three runs on three hits. Walker and Cheatham both pitched in the seventh. Walling came on in relief in the ninth inning.
Mississippi State collected their runs during the late innings of the game which included a solo home run by Tanner Leggett in the eighth. State put their first run on the board in the seventh after singles by Logan Tanner and Hunter Hines. Hines' hit scored Luke Hancock, who reached base on a walk earlier in the frame.

Tennessee takes an early lead after back-to-back-to-back home runs by Luc Lipcius, Jordan Beck and Drew Gilbert.

Tennessee picked up five runs after Seth Stephenson singled through the left side, Lipcius singled to left, followed by a Gilbert sacrifice fly which scored Stephenson. Trey Lipscomb singled through the right side then Jorel Ortega doubled to score Lipcius. Beck followed with a home run to right which scored Lipscomb and Ortega.

The Volunteers extend their lead by three runs after Lipscomb singled to left field, then a Blake Burke walk followed by a Russell double to left center which scored Lipscomb. Cortland Russell walked followed by a Stephenson single to center field to score Burke and Russell.

Tennessee picked up three runs after Beck walked and Lipscomb singled through the left side before Ortega hit a home run to center field which scored Beck and Lipscomb.

Top Seventh
Tennessee continued to extend their lead by four runs after Christian Scott reached base from a hit by pitch, then Lipcius hit a home run to left field which scored two. Beck walked, followed by a Gilbert double, then Beck scored on a wild pitch. There was then a Lipscomb walk and an Ortega single which scored Gilbert. The inning continued with a Russell double which scored Lipscomb and Ortega. Scott singled to right field which scored Russell.

Mississippi State put a run on the board after a Luke Hancock lead-off walk followed by a Logan Tanner single through the right side and a Hunter Hines single through the right side which scored Hancock.

Tennessee extended their lead after a Kyle Booker walk followed by an Ortega home run to left center field which scored Booker.

The Bulldogs score one after Tanner Leggett entered to pinch hit and hit a home run to left field.

Tennessee picked up four runs after Lawson reached base from a hit by pitch, walks to Scott and Booker, then a Logan Stennstra double which scored Lawson, Scott and Booker. Ortega followed with a double to score Stennstra.
