Bulldogs Drop Match Against Arkansas
April 08, 2022 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's tennis team fell to No. 35 Arkansas 4-2 on Friday.
The Bulldogs started the day strong with two doubles victories to earn the first team point.
MSU's Emmanouela Antonaki and Marta Falceto defeated Laura Rijkers and Lenka Stara 6-4. Chloé Cirotte and Alexandra Mikhailuk quickly followed suit, taking down Kelly Keller and Indianna Spink 6-4.
The Hogs' lone win during doubles came as their 37th-ranked duo of Morgan Cross and Tatum Rice topped Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine 6-3.
"We were solid in doubles and won some big points to grab that point and the momentum," said MSU head coach Daryl Greenan. "Unfortunately, we gave it right back by losing five first sets in singles. Ultimately, we fought our way into the match and created plenty of opportunities. Unfortunately, we missed our chances a few too many times today."
Arkansas was able to climb back into the fight during singles play with four singles victories.
State's lone singles victory came from Falceto, who took down Rijkers 6-3, 6-1. It was Falceto's sixth-consecutive singles victory, five of which have come in conference play.
Cirotte lost in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 to Stara as did Racine to Spink 6-1, 6-4.
Rice took the first set against Antonaki 6-3. Antonaki, ranked 80th in the latest ITA standings, fought in the second set but it was Rice who eventually came out on top 7-5.
Adaloglou dropped the first set to Keller 6-1 and had a close second set but ultimately lost 7-5.
The Bulldogs dropped to 1-9 in conference play and 10-12 overall, while Arkansas moved to 13-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
The Bulldogs continue their homestand with Missouri on Sunday at noon.
