Bulldogs Fall To Missouri On Sunday

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's tennis fought down to the bitter end on Sunday against Missouri on senior day.
The final home match for the Bulldogs came down to a three-set finish on the final court but it was Missouri that came away with a 4-3 victory, it's first ever in Starkville.
State (10-13, 1-10 SEC) started things off strong by claiming the doubles point. Chloé Cirotte and Alexandra Mikhailuk took down Romary Cardenas and Ellie Wright 6-1 before Emmanouela Antonaki and Marta Falceto clinched the point against Emelie Schwarte and Elys Ventura with a 6-3 victory.
Seniors Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine were well on the way to winning as well but their match against Gabriela Martinez and Bronte Murgett, was suspended at 5-2 when Antonaki and Falceto clinched.
In singles, No. 80 Antonaki defeated Murgett in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 early.
Cirotte fought back from a 4-6 deficit in the first set to take the next two 6-4, 6-1 to get a victory over Emelie Schwarte. Cirrote has now emerged victorious in five of her past six singles matches and leads the team with a 14-7 record during dual match play.
Ventura got a win over Racine in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Adaloglou won her first set against Wright 5-7, but Wright battled back with 6-3, 6-3 victories in the final two sets to tie the score 3-3.
The match came down to Martinez and Mikhailuk on Court 5. Martinez downed Mihailuk 6-3 in the first set while Mihailuk came back to take the second set 6-3. In the third set, the match went back-and- forth but it was Martinez that ultimately clinched the match for the Tigers with a 7-5 win.
Missouri moved to 7-17 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
The Bulldogs hit the road for the last two matches of the regular season. MSU first stop is at Vanderbilt on Friday at 1 p.m. then head to Lexington to take on Kentucky next Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
