Dawgs Drop Governor’s Cup to Ole Miss

Hines was responsible for bringing in State’s only two runs
PEARL, Miss. – Mississippi State (24-18, 8-10 SEC) fell in the Governor's Cup to Ole Miss (23-17, 6-12 SEC) by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday night (April 26) at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi.
Mississippi State fell behind 2-0 in the opening frame after Ole Miss scored two runs from a walk and a triple, but the lead did not last long. State answered quickly in the bottom of the first frame by tying the game at 2-2 after a few walks, an infield single by Hunter Hines and an Ole Miss throwing error, however Ole Miss later took the lead in the fifth and never looked back.
Mikey Tepper started on the mound for the Bulldogs and allowed two runs on two hits with four strikeouts in four innings before Lane Forsythe (0-1) entered the game and was charged the loss after allowing three runs.
Cam Tullar made a solid relief appearance after coming on in the fifth and striking out two batters to end the three-run inning for Ole Miss. Tullar collected a career high in strikeouts (8) and only allowed one hit during his 3.2 innings on the mound. Drew Talley closed out the night by pitching a scoreless frame in the ninth.
Offensively, Hines was responsible for bringing in State's only two runs after he hit a single to third base which scored Luke Hancock and Logan Tanner who both reached base on back-to-back walks. Hancock's run was earned, but Tanner scored after a throwing error was made from Ole Miss third baseman, Reagan Burford.

Ole Miss scored a few runs to start the game after Justin Bench walked followed by a Jacob Gonzalez triple to right center to score Bench. Tim Elko grounded out to second base and collected an RBI.

Mississippi State answered during the bottom of the inning to tie the game after Luke Hancock and Logan Tanner both drew walks followed by a Hunter Hines single to third base to score Hancock. Tanner moved over to third base on the single then scored on a throwing error by Ole Miss third baseman Reagan Burford.

Ole Miss plated three runs to take the lead after Peyton Chatagnier singled to left field and Gonzalez doubled to right field before Elko singled to left to scored Chatagnier and Gonzalez. Kevin Graham doubled to right field to later score Elko.

Mississippi State will travel to Taylor Stadium for a three-game series against Missouri at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, April 29, in Columbia, Missouri. The first two games of the series will be aired on SEC Network+ while the game three contest will air on SEC Network.
